Universidad de la República (Udelar)

Universidad de la República (UDELAR) is the oldest and largest university in Uruguay, founded in 1849. It is a public, free-of-charge institution that serves the majority of the country’s higher education students.

UDELAR is organized into multiple faculties and schools spread across Montevideo and the interior of the country, including Regional Norte in Salto. It offers an extensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs across all areas of knowledge: law, medicine, engineering, humanities, sciences, economics, architecture, social sciences, and more.

As a public university, UDELAR plays a central role in Uruguay’s research output and cultural development. It is funded by the state and provides tuition-free education to all students who meet admission requirements.
